About the Internship
As a Security Operations Engineering Intern at Microsoft, you will work with global security teams to protect Microsoft’s infrastructure, data, and customers from internal and external cyber threats. Interns are involved in real production systems and contribute to improving Microsoft’s overall security posture.
This role is ideal for candidates interested in SOC operations, threat detection, automation, and incident response.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate attempted or successful security breaches and determine mitigation steps
- Respond to security incidents and support escalation processes
- Conduct threat intelligence, analysis, and data-driven security decisions
- Develop and automate security processes and controls
- Support red team / purple team operations
- Maintain firewalls, encryption protocols, and access control policies
- Improve system security posture through continuous monitoring
Eligibility Criteria
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in:
- Computer Science
- Statistics
- Mathematics
- Or related technical field
- Must have at least one semester/quarter remaining after completing the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing a Master’s degree in a related field
- Security certifications (good to have):
- CISSP, CISA, CISM
- Security+, OSCP
- SANS, GCIA, GCIH
