Southern Railway Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026 (4,471 Vacancies)

Southern Railway has officially released the recruitment notification (Notification No. 01/2026/CPB/P1/98/Act/TP/Vol.XXI) for 4,471 Act Apprentice vacancies across various divisions and workshops, including Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, Arakkonam, Perambur, Golden Rock, Palakkad, and Thiruvananthapuram.

There is no written examination. Selection will be based directly on a Merit List calculated from 10th Class / 12th Class / ITI marks.

Vacancies & Educational Qualification

1. Fresher Category (163 Posts)

• Fitter, Painter & Welder: Passed 10th Standard (SSLC) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Passed 12th Standard (10+2 system) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

2. Ex-ITI Category (4,308 Posts)

• Trades Offered: Fitter (959), Electrician (576), COPA (404), Welder (342), Draughtsman Civil (281), MMTM (200), Structural Welder (190), Gas Cutter (190), Painter (171), Carpenter (137), Fitter Mechanical (129), Electronics Mechanic (123), Diesel Mechanic (105), Wireman (62), R&AC Mechanic (60), Machinist (59), Plumber (30), Turner (35), MMV (35), Stenographer (30), ICTSM (20), Instrument Mechanic (20), Advance Welder (4).
• Qualification: Passed 10th Standard (with 50% minimum marks) + NCVT / SCVT recognized National Trade Certificate (ITI) in the relevant trade.

• Fresher Category: 15 to 22 Years
• Ex-ITI / MLT Category: 15 to 24 Years

Age Relaxation Criteria

• SC / ST Candidates: 5 Years
• OBC Candidates: 3 Years
• PwBD (General / EWS): 10 Years
• PwBD (OBC): 13 Years
• PwBD (SC / ST): 15 Years
• Ex-Servicemen: As per Government Rules

Selection Process

1. Merit List: Prepared strictly based on the percentage of marks obtained in 10th Standard (and ITI for Ex-ITI trade posts).
2. Document Verification (DV) & Medical Fitness Check.
